12-06-2012 SKINT participates in the Conference Water & the City

'SKINT participates in the Conference Water & the City,  14 - 15 June 2012, TU Delft, The Netherlands with the poster on challenges OF WATER RESILIENCE IN THE EXISTING CITY'

Coping with population growth and climate adaptation is the main challenge in dense urbanized Amsterdam. The attractive residential area Watergraafsmeer is the lowest part of Amsterdam (5,5m below sea level) and therefore vulnerable to flooding (groundwater, stormwater, riverwater), an interesting case for SKINT. To cope with these challenges SKINT members from TU Delft and HHNK worked in WATERGRAAFSMEER with designers, housing, civil engineers, associations and citizen groups to unite ambitions of sustainability, liveability and water adaptation.

To calculate the consequences of water management interventions more quickly and in more detail, and present the results in a three-dimensional format: this is the goal of 3Di. By 2014 the participants hope to market a tool to facilitate rapid, accurate water management desicions - in order to design improvements, in response to emergencies and in daily management. This is expected to produce major savings, because a tailor-made solution is generally cheaper than simply wielding the axe.
